MYMHM39v - Melvin Goes To Dinner
TOTALLY RAD!
Jeff Cannata was hugely supportive of our show in it's first few episodes (plus giving us our first big Twitter push). We couldn't think of a better way to thank him than to have him join us for a film he loves!
It just makes our job THAT much easier when he brings 'Melvin Goes to Dinner'. This indie sweetheart came out of the LA theater scene, and features an INCREDIBLE cast of leads and cameos. Bob Odenkirk has directed a comic and intimate look at strangers baring their souls.
It really is one of those films we're proud to discuss, as it's a shame more people haven't seen it.
We must extend MAJOR thanks to Jeff, not only for bringing this great film to our attention, but for all the support he's given us. You can catch Jeff every Tuesday as one of the hosts of The Totally Rad Show on Revision3.com, and you can also keep up with his other exploits on his personal (award winning) site JeffCannata.com .

MYMHM38v - 'Equilibrium
So we kinda ragged on Christian Bale in our review of Run Lola Run, so to make it up to him (because I'm sure he was very upset about it) we took a look through his catalog to find a movie to talk about.
We also realized that we'd yet to cover a guilty pleasure over the top action flick.
Kismet.
This 2002 flick was the first in a series of films for Bale which would make him a bankable action star, and he doesn't even need to use his Batman voice! Let's take a look at 'Equilibrium'!

MYMHM37v - 'Shadow Of The Vampire'
See I like it better when vampires are apex predators not hopeless romantics... Just sayin...
Shadow of the Vampire is an incredibly fun "what if" movie that does a great job of playing with history. Loosely chronicling the events surrounding the filming of the 1922 horror classic 'Nosferatu', Shadow asks "What if the guy playing the vampire REALLY WAS a vampire?" What results is a really touching examination of old versus new, and the creation of one of the most prima-donna actors in the history of cinema.

We also have to extend a huge thanks to friend and fan Donna D. for suggesting this remarkable film, and keep an eye out for an MYMHM supplemental where we'll take a look at the original Nosferatu!

MYMHM36v - 'Run Lola Run'
It's 90s time!
This film helped a whole generation of American film fans find foreign films. This Tykwer classic is an incredible mixed media, hyper kinetic, feast for the eyes, with a story that plays with time in an interesting way.
It's a near perfect example of what films from the 1990's looked like. Check it out!
Also a huge thank you to fan of the show Nicolas Alanou for suggesting we cover a Tykwer movie!

MYMHM35v - 'Noises Off'
HAPPY TWO THOUSAND AND TEN!
We realized that we wrapped 2009 with a movie titled "hate", and thought we'd start 2010 off on a better note. We could think of few films more joyous than 'Noises Off'.
This romp features an incredible cast, fantastic editing, and some of the best gags seen on screen since 'Airplane'. With Juan, Marie, and Lee having worked in theatre, this film brings out some great memories (some funny, some terrifying), and with Dutch never having done any theatre, she was able to laugh with (and at) us the whole time.

MYMHM34v - 'La Heine'
Our last episode of THE DECADE!
This movie comes to us as a fan request, and we're glad it did.
This French film ushered in a new era of cinema realism, and it's quite possibly one that we NEVER would've found we're it not for Jodie Foster and The Criterion Collection...

MYMHM33v - Better Of Dead
We're cheating again!
Just like for our Thanksgiving episode, our holiday episode only vaguely has anything to do with the holiday we're celebrating, though it does include one of the funniest gift giving sequences we've ever seen.
Cult fave 'Better Off Dead' comes from an era of innocent, silly, satirical film making that we just can't generate any more. Super wacky, but it doesn't take the audience's intelligence for granted. Not to mention almost every line in the film is quotable to some degree, and the premise has been ripped off for countless parodies (even a South Park episode).
I guess all this accolade makes it even more tragic that John Cusack reviles this film, even though it's one of the films that helped put him on the map. What's that you say? Controversy?
Well watch on:

MYMHM32v - Dog Fight
What's this I see?
Another guest episode?
With Mitchell FREAKING Whitfield!
That's right, Mitchell Whitfield (My Cousin Vinny, TMNT) joins us to talk about this River Phoenix, Lili Taylor gem, a charming film that's a little impossible to describe. Vietnam era comedy/drama/romance, oh and the action takes place almost entirely over one day. PITCH THAT FILM!
Come join us as we speak with Mitchell about his experiences working on the film, going to boot camp, and the public and critical reaction to the film.

MYMHM31v - The Sports Spectacular
OK. So it should really be called the "MYMHM American Football Movie Spectacular", as all three movies are about American Football, but really we're just overcompensating for the fact that we've NEVER covered a sports movie here on Movies You May Have Missed.
There are TONS of movies we wanted to discuss, but the three here in this episode help qualify why we do this show. 'The Longest Yard' helped define what sports movies could be, and without it many other sports movies wouldn't have been attempted. 'Wildcats' is an often overlooked gem of a comedy, and 'Necessary Roughness' is our obligatory screwball comedy guilty pleasure.

MYMHM30v - A Man For All Seasons
Well lookee here!
The big 3-0, and to celebrate, Lee's roommate Tuck joins us to talk about this Fred Zinneman classic!
Apparently this film was mandatory viewing for one of Tuck's ethics classes, but don't let that scare you away. 'A Man For All Seasons' is a smart, funny, moving look at the reign of Henry the VIII, from the perspective of Thomas More.
Featuring an incredible cast, and winning SIX Oscars in 1966, let's see if Tuck can defend WHY you should watch this "ethical" movie...

MYMHM29v - Dutch
Yup! It's our first holiday themed episode, and rather than cheat and go straight to a Christmas movie, we've dug up a GREAT guilty pleasure flick for Turkey Day.
This is quite possibly the worst reviewed movie we've ever discussed, ranking only 19% over at Rotten Tomatoes, and we love every minute of it! See, this is a near perfect "after turkey coma" flick, and the combination of Ed O'Neill and Ethan Embry (Randall) hamming up a John Hughes road trip script, should provide you PLENTY of yuks before the tryptophan lays you out!
