(Play It) O2 Making Waves 28th Nov '08 - The Amazing Few
The Amazing Few play psycho pop, a unique style of energetic music celebrating the imagination! The Amazing Few are a 2-12 piece band who together have devised the liveliest music to express their unique form of storytelling. The wildly different, excitable songwriting has been compared to Frank Zappa and The Clash amongst others. It's fast, quirky and punk at heart. Fresh from headlining this year's Dublin Fringe Festival, Kieron and Dan drop by in an attempt to explain what their lyrics are really about and what their future plans are. Catch them talking to Richie Chakra on O2 Making Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie and email in any comments you have to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 21st Nov'08 - The Hot Sprockets
The Hot Sprockets are one of the hardest working bands in Dublin. The past two years have seen The Hot Sprockets play over 200 gigs, with a number of high profile support slots, including The View and Republic of Loose. They're blues rock with a healthy dose of attitude; The Hot Sprockets do 'country dirt' - Dublin style. With influences from The Stooges through to Chuck Berry and Led Zeppelin, theirs is a heady brew of diverse and energetic sounds. Catch them talking to Claire O'Dowd here on O2 Making Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie and feel free to email in any thoughts or comments to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 14th Nov'08 - The Gorgeous Colours Revisited
The Gorgeousness of five-piece indie rock band, The Gorgeous Colours, can now be heard in their self titled album which was released last month. In their nine tracks, the listener is presented with a mixture of melancholy and infectious, upbeat tunes guaranteed to leave you wanting to hear more. According to Hotpress magazine 'it would take a person with a corpse-like stiffness not to be drawn into their triumphant performance'. Today we are joined in studio by two members of the band - Neil Smyth and Philip O' Gorman. You can listen to their interview on O2 Making Waves with Claire O' Dowd at www.podcastingireland.ie, and feel free to email any comments about the band or the show to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 07th Nov'08 - Carly Sings
Described as 'hard edged easy listening', Carly Sings (aka Carly Blackman) is a multi instrumentalist brought up in both Wicklow and France. While studying journalism, she decided to turn her talent to songwriting and pursue a career in music. Her debut album 'The Glove Thief' has been described as retro, bizarre and incredibly beautiful. She is a noughties girl with a wonderfully off-kilter take on modern situations. Catch her speaking to Claire O'Dowd on O2 Making Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie, and email in any comments to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 31st Oct'08 - Armoured Bear
Armoured Bear frontman Anthony Noonan has been playing the drums in various bands since the age of 13. But when he decided that wasn't enough and picked up the guitar, piano and bass his world was never the same again. Armed with these tools he went solo for a while but decided the solitary singer-songwriter life wasn't for him and recorded an album under the name Armoured Bear. He then drafted in some high calibre musicians to form the rest of the lineup and the boys gave the songs a new life. The rest, as they say, is history. With the West Cork outfit combining soothing arrangements and melodies in the vein of Simon and Garfunkel and Kings Of Convenience, and now armed with their debut album, Armoured Bear set forth to battle with an armoury of talent that is the envy of many. Listen to their interview with Rory Dungan on O2 Making Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie. Please feel free to email makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie if you have any comments or questions about Armoured Bear or the show.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 24th Oct'08 - Duke Special Revisited
Duke Special is back to join us on O2 Making Waves a year later, and back with a new album. 'I Never Thought This Day Would Come' is an inspirational, bright and energetic collection of new sounds from this charasmatic performer. He said he wanted to do something different, and different it is. The new album continues to defy genre and to embody influences old and new. Listen in here to a Duke Speciality interview with Claire O'Dowd at www.podcastingireland.ie. We have five copies of Duke's new album to give away! Simply listen in to the podcast and name one track from Duke Special's new album 'I Never Thought This Day Would Come'. Email your answers to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 17th Oct'08 - Robotnik
Robotnik is very far from your average musician. He lives in a world far removed from ours where he conjures up madcap notions and ideas and turns them into songs and videos. His refreshing zest and innovation deserve the ever growing audience to which they're finally being exposed. With some heavy influence from early Beck and elements of Eels and Sparklehorse thrown into the mix, Robotnik charges forward ambitiously with his own brand of humour and ingenuity. In a world where many musicians take themselves far too seriously, this is a man who, with the quality of his musical output, probably should take himself as seriously as the next man. But why would you get bogged down in heavy seriousness when you can make music this good, with a smile on your face? Feel free to drop us a line at makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie with your thoughts and opinions.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 10th Oct'08 - The Dagger Lees
With a voice that would knock your knees up into your armpits at a live show and a wonderfully dirty bluesy edge to their music, The Dagger Lees have loudly announced themselves on the Irish music scene. With their debut single going in to the Irish Indie charts at No.5 and their music already featuring on an American motion picture, their progress promises to be every bit as pleasing as their sound. Some compare them to The Von Bondies, others to The White Stripes, but whatever you think of them, you'll be hard pushed to find anybody with a better, more booming vocalist in this country than lead singer Donna! Please feel free to email any comments on The Dagger Lees and the show to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie

Leonard's Corner began playing together in Blaney's garage, in Harold's Cross in late 2006. Since that time they have played venues all across Dublin. Nova static are an alternative rock act based in Laois, described as "one of the best original acts in the county". Having existed in some form for a number of years, the current line-up of Dara, Daniel, Brian and Stephen all came together at the tail end of 2006. Making their live debut in February 2007, the band has followed an upward trajectory ever since; quickly developing a more mature sound; appearing regularly at venues around the country; securing support slots with acts such as the coronas and republic of loose. 2008 looks to be another busy year for nova static; having embraced their more eclectic influences, the band are looking forward to playing lots of shows in lots of places, further recordings, festival dates and media appearances. (Play It) O2 Making Waves 25th July'08 - Alyanya
Alyanya's Myspace biography only contains two words; "I Am", yet these sparse syllables manage to speak volumes about this bright young woman's enchanting musical direction. A native of Dublin, Alyanya first laid her hands on the ivory of a piano at age seven and has since gone on to study jazz at the Newpark College of Music as well as travelling the globe to showcase her music and art (didn't we mention that she also paints?) in such far-flung destinations as Australia, Rajasthan and Goa. Alyanya can often be caught teaming up with fellow singer/songwriter, and Making Waves alumnus, Jenny Lindfors to play as part of a loose posse of musicians called the Happy Gang. Alyanya recently lowered herself into the murky depths of our studio and met up with Gillian Quinn for a quick chat.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 18th July'08 - Le Galaxie
High energy, electro rock group, Le Galaxie are a 4 man band consisting of Michael Pope and Anthony Hyland on guitar, Alastair Higgins on drums and David McGloughlin on bass. A regular to the stages of many of the best venues across the country such as Whelan's and Crawdaddy in Dublin, Dolan's in Limerick and The Roisin Dubh in Galway, Le Galaxie have recently released their second single "We Bleed the Blood of Androids". They've received rave reviews from the likes of State magazine who call their music "wholesome and gorgeous" with the feel of a '60s sci-fi movie', and Hot Press describe the new single as a "fine example as any of their spaced out, sci-fi inspired sonic explorations while still managing to retain the organic warmth that's rare to find in electronica." One of the band members, Al Higgins popped into our studios to chat with 02 Making Waves presenter Gillian Quinn.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 11th July'08 - Colm Lynch
Since releasing his critically acclaimed album "A Whisper in a Riot", in 2006, Colm Lynch armed with just his severely
overworked acoustic guitar and searing vocals has been bringing his music to an ever expanding audience. Now, with a new band in rehearsal, a new album in the making, a new single ready for release, Colm Lynch is preparing to launch an all-out assault on the nation's eardrum's and airwaves.Catch them on O2 Making Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie and email us

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 4th July'08 - Wyvern Lingo
The last thing prodigious new Irish band Wyvern Lingo would ever do would be to conform to a stereotype.
They may be a band composed of three girls, but they are most definitely not a "girl band".
With the girls syphoning their inspiration from such rich and diverse sources as Led Zeppellin, Aretha Franklin and Jeff Buckley,
they have successfully crafted a musical style that is at once reminiscient of their heroes yet completely their own.
Wyvern Lingo recently took part in the 2FM School of Rock competition, where they went all the way to the Leinster finals.

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 27th June'08 - Alphamono
Alphamono began in 2005 when founding member Paddy McGovern began musically experimenting using an MC 505
and a Roland synthesiser to create his earliest four-track recordings. Since then, both his musical and technical acumen have developed
thanks to his studies in electronic music production and sound engineering.
Drawing on melodies from a bygone era when The Beatles and The Kinks rewrote and reinvented the songbook, fused together with the sonic
power and metallic edge from the likes of Depeche Mode, Royksopp and Death In Vegas.
Together the blend of accessible lilts and electronic energy give Alphamono a sound the likes of which is not rivalled, let alone equalled,
in contemporary Irish music. Catch them on O2 Making Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie and email us

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 20th June'08 - The Red Labels
A four piece Dublin band, The Red Labels have frequently been referred to as an indie-rock band trying to
control the relentless punk sound within.
In the last handful of months the Red Labels have successfully seized the ears and imaginations of music fans
throughout Dublin and the nation.
Recent gigs include breathtaking live shows at such popular venues as The Button Factory, The Academy, Whelans, Crawdaddy and The Sugar Club.
The Red Labels popped into the studio recently to chat with our very own Gillian Quinn about their music and what the future holds for
these exciting new prospects.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 13th June'08 - Lights
Rising from the ashes of their previous band, The Voyeurs, in December 2006, Dublin electro
group Lights are beginning to really stand out as hot prospects for the future. Pulling their sound from
influences as varied as David Bowie, The Prodigy, XTC and Depeche Mode has so far proven to be a killer
combination, with sources such as Connected and In Dublin magazine piling on the praise for the band's unique sound.
Following a succession of celebrated live performances, Lights are currently in
pre-production for their debut album which will be released later this year.
Our very own O2 Making Waves presenter Sarah Mulkerrins recently got to grips with the band and managed
to send a few questions their way.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 6th June'08 - The Aftermath
Named after their favourite Rolling Stones record, and with 3 Top 20 singles under their belt,
The Aftermath have just now released their debut album titled Friendlier Up Here. Recorded in France,
the album was put together by a highly impressive production team used by some of the biggest names in music,
including U2, Travis, Damien Rice, The Waterboys and Paul Weller. But it hasn't all been handed to them
on a plate - The Aftermath have spent much of their life as a band touring the country and playing small,
independent gigs to build up what is now a huge fan base. They've supported Razorlight, The Streets
and The Mission and have toured across the UK and Ireland with over 40 sell out gigs of their own.
Originally from Co. Longford, brothers Johnny and Mick Cronin grew up in Leeds and were a regular
on the local performance scene with many other UK guitar based groups such as their friends Parva,
who later went on to become The Kaiser Chiefs. But it was back home in Ireland where they found a
fresh new opportunity to start anew... and the rest they say is history! O2 Making Waves presenter
Gillian Quinn caught up with The Aftermath in studio to find out more.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 30th May'08 - Little Nightmare
With their lead singer being described as a 'cool Kelly Clarkson' and the band seemingly stripping influences
from every rock, metal and punk band out there, it's no wonder Little Nightmare's sound ends up being such a thrill-ride.
The band received a torrent of critical attention for their self-titled EP, receiving a perfect 5/5 from online American magazine,
Off The Record. Little Nightmare have also got quite a gigging resume to their names and have previously appeared on popular
internet video site, Balcony TV. Catch them on O2 Making Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie and email us in any
comments you have to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves 16th May'08 - Grasshopper
Hailing from the sunny Wicklow town of Bray, Grasshopper are a young band quickly carving out a name for themselves.
Grasshopper have been ceaselessly dazzling audiences with their mash-up style of jingly guitar anthems and
well-crafted lyrics since coming into existence just last year.
Winning high praise for their recent recording debut, from sources such as MusicReview Magazine and Radio Na Life,
Grasshopper are definitely marking themselves out as a wise investment for the future of great Irish music.
The lads recently hopped in (see what I did there?) to let presenter Rory Dungan in on all the latest news from the Grasshopper camp.

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 16th May'08 - We Should Be Dead
With their band comprising the combination of two girls and two boys
in a pop-punk mix, the 'punk-rock ABBA' comparisons were inevitable for We Should Be Dead.
Blasting forth from Limerick on a rocket fuelled by 'pop-tastic, punk-tastic, girl/boy-tastic
bubblegum rock', WSBD are blazing their names across the Irish music scene. The band's debut
single 'Forget Romance Let's Dance' made a huge impact on its release in November 2007,
landing at number 3 in the Irish single charts. The single was A-Listed on all the major
Irish radio stations, and gained huge exposure on BBC Radio 1. The bands debut album,
was released on February 1st 2008 to widespread critical acclaim. WSBD were also recently
nominated in the Best Newcomers category at this year's Meteor Irish Music Awards.
The guys and gals recently popped into the studio to have a sitdown with our own Sarah
Mulkerrins and to clue us in on what WSBD are really all about. Catch them on O2 Making

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 9th May'08 - Paul Hourican
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Paul Hourican's first steps into a life of
music were shaky ones. After picking up his first guitar at the age of fifteen, Paul set
off on the path to success. As with so many great musicians, this path proved to be a
rocky one and he set sail to try his hand at the London music scene where he recaptured
his love of music and writing. After another brief stint amongst the towering skyscrapers
of New York, Paul returned home to his native Dublin where he quickly got down to
recording his first two-track demo. It was at a Damien rice gig that Paul got his
first real break, when Paul gave his demo to Rice after the show. Needless to say,
Damien was impressed and Paul's career was well and truly back on track.
After opening for Damien Rice on a number of occasions, receiving great praise
from Irish music magazine Hotpress, starting up his own record label, Hurricane Records,
in 2004 and appearing on top radio shows such as Today Fm's RayDarcy show and Tom Dunne's
Pet Sounds, Paul somehow managed to find the time amidst all this to record his debut album,
'Let The Enemy In'. Paul recently managed to drag himself away from writing and touring
to join presenter Rory Dungan in the studio. Listen to O2 Making Waves on

With legions of Irish music journalists and a veritable army of die-hard fans
behind them, Large Mound have been steadily conquering the Irish underground rock scene.
The Mound already have three studio albums under their belt, extensive gigging experience
and a list of critical acclaim a mile long. These guys are no flash in the pan.
During the bands lifetime, the line-up has seen quite a few changes with
bassists and drummers coming and going on a fairly regular basis. Constant
to the structure of the band however, are founding member and singer/guitarist
Anthony Mackey who writes most of the songs and second singer/guitarist
'The Boy' Mark Jordan. All of Large Mound's songs are about working, rocking,
and the funny things that happen to you in between. The band's most recent album
'My Whole Life Is Have To' was released back in November of last year to great
reviews across the board. We recently managed to trick the lads into doing an
interview with our presenter Rory Dungan. Catch Large Mound on O2 Makign Waves at www.podcastingireland.ie!

the guys have been doing the rounds of all the countries intimate venues
and have been playing along side some of Irelands more established artists.
They have honed and perfected their sound in the comfort of their fans and
are here to 'amuse' for the long haul. They describe their music as a clash

Ireland. The band have also supported Bon Jovi in Croke Park and they remain one of only three Irish bands
ever to play live at the stadium. The guys are now looking forward to the release of their first debut album called
'Gypsy Trip' which goes on release this year. Having been credited as 'the illegitimate offsprings of Thin Lizzy' as a result of their

Electro-pop-rock ensemble Green Lights burst forth from the Irish music scene in the summer of 2006
and wasted no time in establishing themselves as one of the most unique and exciting bands to come out
of Dublin in years. With their distinctive sound being described as a sonic hybrid of Pavement and Tom Vek
(and who doesn't love the sound of that?), Green Lights have swept across the landscape of Dublin's
underground music venues like a tune-spewing behemoth, leaving a trail of dropped jaws and eager
new fans in their wake. In the closing months of 2007, Green Lights entered the studio to lay down the
tracks which would become their debut EP, 'Small Curious Things'. The band recently made our week by
dropping into the studio to have a sit-down with us and to chat about the release of their EP this year

The blistering hard-rock sound of Travega was born in January 2004, with the band beginning their journey as a quartet. In this
first incarnation, the band swept away competition to win the Xlantic Records Battle of the Bands, a journey which was then splashed across the pages
of The Star newspaper. The band then began a string of sell-out gigs and their recording debut arrived in the summer of 2005
in the form of a 3-track E.P produced by singer/songwriter Declan O'Rourke. A whole sixteen months later, which was filled with sell-out gigs at
great venues across Dublin, Travega unleashed their debut single, 'The People' upon the public which flew straight onto the Irish charts at number 27 and remained
there for several weeks. Currently the band is gearing themselves up for the release and promotion of their debut album which was recorded at The Farm and The
Armoury Studios in Vancouver. Travega recently took time out to drop by the studio to talk with our very own presenter Sarah Mulkerrins. Any questions,

for such top Irish acts as Republic Of Loose and Director. Another feather in their proverbial cap

in March last year and featured tracks from breakthrough Irish artists like Bell X1, Kila and Paddy Casey.
Seneca have been whipping up a storm in the Irish music scene since forming in 2005, winning two 'battle of the bands' competitions

in the Irish Charts in just its second week. The band will be crossing the pond later this year to embark on a music tour of the USA!

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 07th Mar'08 - Eamonn Mc Cormack
To say that Eamonn McCormack is no stranger to the Irish music scene would be a vast understatement.
Here is a man who is not only one of the most accomplished blues guitarists in Europe, but who has also played with
some of the finest musicians Ireland, and the world, has to offer. Touring all over Ireland, Europe and the world, under the
stage name 'Samuel Eddy', he simultaneously released no fewer than three critically acclaimed studio albums.
Eamonn's influences include some of the greatest names in rock such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Neil
Young and Ireland's own guitar legend Rory Gallagher, who Eamonn had the pleasure of playing and recording
with before his tragic death. Eamonn also managed to find the time between tours to set up his own record label,
True Talent Records, on which his new album 'Kindred Spirits' is out now. Presenter Sarah Mulkerrins caught up
with Eamonn recently to find out more about the man, the album and the blues. If you have any questions or

19 year old student. Gigs have come easier and eyebrows have been raised at
the level of maturity he has displayed at these shows. Alan, mere months after

having catapulted to the attentions of record labels through an appearance on the Late Late Toy Show
aged just 12 years old! But it has been the past year which has been a defining one for
the Wicklow lass - scooping the Meteor and Tatler Best Female Award, along with awards for her
funky fashion sense and appearances on RTE's 'Off the Rails'. Not in the least fazed by trials of the industry, Luan's
steely determination to succeed is reflected in her music which draws together
strands of country and folk, and is punctuated by her unique voice. It's only a

heights of number two in the download chart and with their much anticipated

huge support slots so far, including The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx and Underworld,

The Redneck Manifesto are amongst the most resolutely independent
bands that one could find. Their magical interweaving of complex instrumental
arrangements and, at times, staggering melodies, has never and possibly will never,
be acknowledged on the scale it deserves. For a band that flouts almost all the
superfluous elements that go with music in this day and age such as management and
promotion it is up to their devoted fans to spread the word. And spread the word they
have...all the way to Japan. Presenter Rory Dungan caught up with Neil O'Connor before the
band departed to tour Japan to find out how it all happened and to discuss what it is that

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 9th Nov'07 - Dry County
It's safe to say that Dry County don't sound like many other bands.
Their music drips with an atmosphere so dense it could crush you whole. Every track
seems to employ a mind boggling array of often normal but sometimes peculiar sounds
and instruments. Noteworthy among these is the 'speak and spell' children's toy that
announces the words 'lost now' on the track of the same name. Experimental and
innovative to the core and with a rock-dance hybrid which makes categorising
them rather difficult, Dry County finally released their debut album earlier in
the year after a rapid metamorphosis in their sound prompted them to discard much of
the material that they had written for the album stretching back months and even years.
Presenter Rory Dungan caught up with Phil and Derek in studio to chat to them about
their sound. You can email any comments you have on Dry County and the show to

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 2nd Nov'07 - Kopek
Kopek have learned the hard way that the music industry can devour
its young just as easily as it can nurture them in its warm embrace. Getting snapped up
by Kid Rock's manager Tommy Valentino seemed like a dream come true but didn't necessarily
suit the bands creative direction.
Upon their release back into the wild the boys wasted no time in playing one killer
show after another, as befits the Global Battle Of The Bands champions of 2005.
In fact there can't be many bands on this page that have played a gig as big as
their performance in front of 50,000 Mexicans on their world tour. With a sound
that makes even The Queens Of The Stone Age seem delicate and tender and with vocals
that Caleb Followill and The Kings Of Leon would be proud of, presenter Rory Dungan
caught up with singer Dan and bassist Brad to see if they're as loud in studio as
they are on stage. Please email any comments about Kopek or the show to

vintage and self confessed 'hobo-chic' style offers original, theatrical on-stage
performances yet equally emotive recordings with his latest album achieving platinum status.
His new release boasts an additional ten track live recording with the Ulster
Orchestra as well as collaborations with Heil Hannon and The Magic Numbers'

(Play It) O2 Making Waves 12th Oct'07 - A Lazarus Soul
Rising from a 'Graveyard of Burnt Out Cars', their melancholic
wonder of a second album, come A Lazarus Soul. As distinctive and vivid
a band and album as you're likely to come across this year. The album is a
musical journey that begins on the gritty streets of inner city Dublin in
the 1980s, before the Celtic Tiger changed the face of the landscape.
The album takes us joyriding through council estates, swerving across
the road between the 'ordinary decent criminals' of days gone by and the
bloodthirsty gangs that dominate the Dublin underground in the present day.
Intensely personal and poignant throughout and with a voice that seems to have
been stolen from the throat of none other than Morrissey himself A Lazarus
Soul have arrived, assured and enlightened. Fans of The Smiths, Joy Division
and The Fall should commence licking their lips. Presenter Rory Dungan caught

It's conceivable, as sad and nostalgic as it might be for them,
that The Laundry Shop will one day have to move from their current rehearsal

if you haven't already guessed, they've honed their sound in the cosy confines
of... a laundry room. The Laundry Shop owe their musical allegiance to the likes
of The Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement and Weezer and with the release of their
debut album in the coming months they are primed to join their erstwhile rock
compatriots on the airwaves. But if you think you may not have heard them before,
think again. Their single 'Highs And Lows' featured on the massive Failte Ireland,
Discover Ireland campaign and, because of its success, probably even contributed a
little towards the future dereliction of their lovely rehearsal room. Presenter

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Leanne Harte: revisited
After 11 years writing songs and 5 years in the industry,
Leanne Harte could be considered somewhat of a musical veteran at this rate but the
21 year old sounds as fresh as ever with the release of her new acoustic album
'An Irish Girl in Paris'. We caught up with Leanne to chat about her life since the last
podcast and to find out why she is skipping the festival scene this summer to head off to
Africa! We also have copies of the album to give away, just answer the question in the
podast and send your answers to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie!
(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Star Turtle
Before they decided to take over the world, and not just the world of music,
Matt Walker and his brother Jona were quite different musically. Matt played the guitar and
Jona liked free style rapping. When Jona took up the bass guitar and joined Matt, hard
rock loving Darragh Hoey and folk fan Gary Nixon, Star Turtle became a fully formed creature
with four distinct and entirely separate limbs. These four seemingly disparate elements have propelled this creature forward faster than its reptilian namesake has ever been known to move.
As the band's ascent continues we caught up with them in studio to check on the progress of
their plans for world domination and to chat about why everybody can't just get along.
Be sure to drop us a line at makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie with any comments about the band or the show.
(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Twin Kranes
It's no secret that the three members of Twin Kranes were abducted by rock n roll
loving Aliens. The Aliens agreed to return the lads back home on one condition; that they form a
band and make visceral psychedelic rock inspired music. The lads duly agreed and true to their
word have released two singles which would make E.T want to phone home to tell his folks how
damn good these three earthlings sound. Their latest single Being Kong is available for
download through i-tunes and the lads should be coming to a venue near you in the not so
distant future. Drop us a line to let us know of what you think of this weeks O2 Making Waves

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - All Star Charge
All Star Charge speak through their music (don't worry, they don't sing their answers in the interview!). They firmly believe that bands should be judged on the content of their songs above all else. In an era where the music industry relentlessly drives its creaking machinery by marketing and commercially exploiting attractive 'packages' it's refreshing to hear about hard working bands that spend their days exhaustively practising and refining their songs and want to be judged only on the merits of what they've created. No pretensions, no politics, just meaningful song-writing. All Star Charge are one of these bands. They popped in to tell us more on this week’s O2 Making Waves. Feel free to let us know your own thoughts on the band and the show at makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Nigel Place
Coming from a background of garage bands and heavy metal, it's surprising that Nigel Place now creates songs with beautiful words, dulcet tones and wistful strumming. His goal in writing music is to create a strong song with strong lyrics and a strong melody, which is abundantly clear in his material. He sees artists such as Elbow and Jeff Buckley as being major influences on his music, but also has a strong admiration for anybody who just goes out and does it! Nigel started gigging in the 90's but took a career break as he 'fell out of love with music'. Luckily, he picked up his guitar a few years ago and rekindled the old flame, and now is once again out there sharing his songs with the public. Let us know what you think by emailing us at makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves - The Chakras Revisited
It's been a busy year for the Chakras and it's set to be an even busier one if they have anything to say about it! In this week's O2 Making Waves we catch up with Richie and Rocky to find out what they have been up to since their last podcast, about their new album, their change in music style and their plans with Right Said Fred, Michel Platini and Maradona! We have copies of the Chakras new album 'Build Me a Swan' to give away. Listen to the podcast and tell us which band the guys would like to be like, changing their sound with each album. emerged as one of the most popular Irish acts of past few years, winning over audiences with
their seamless blend of funk, r n b and soul. Album number two having stormed the Irish charts,
is slated for a U.K release in the coming months and will hopefully propel the band into the international spotlight. Live is where the Loose come into their own, so make sure you catch

Fresh from performing at the O2 Making Waves one year birthday bash in Radio City,
Johnny Ward Shine is this week's featured artist on O2 Making Waves. Johnny has been in the
spotlight since he was a nipper singing and performing. After appearing on Glor Tire, Johnny
released a country and western CD, but now at the tender age of 19 Johnny is already moving

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Gavin Ryan
Gavin Ryan has a distinctive blues/folk/jazz style that stands out from the crowd.
Along with the artistic input to his songs, he also plays a large role in the production of his songs, having studied music technology for two years. This all encompassing approach means all
of his songs end up on the shelf exactly how he had planned and are hopefully a more enjoyable experience for the listener! He instils a great dynamic in energy in all of his performances and is definitely one to watch for in the charts.
Gavin has given us a copy of his album 'Broken Blues' to give away to one lucky listener. To be in with a chance to win it just answer this question: Gavin has been described as the cheeky love child of who? Email us your answer to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Tidal District
Tidal District have simple dreams in many ways, Tidal District are four friends that like to play music together, they, in their own words 'want to write good songs' and 'not take
sweets from strangers'. This doesn't however stop them belting out some rip roaring guitar
tunes. Slow builds, speedy interplay and frenetic riffs are mixed with tender vocals, devilish pace changes and some rousing climaxes. The band have been
compared to Sigur Ros, Elbow, The Strokes and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah depending on
whoever you find at their gigs yammering on about them. Having only been together a few months you can check them out before
the crowd! Drop us a line to let us know

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - ODi
Of all the artists we've featured on O2 Making Waves, ODi is perhaps the only
one who never actually intended on having a music career. She put some tracks up on myspace
'for a laugh', people started asking when her next gig was, and it all just snowballed from
there! Her acoustic style is perfectly suited to her velvety vocals and the catchy melodies
of her songs. In less than a year she has gone from relative obscurity, to gigging all
over Ireland and the UK, earning herself a legion of loyal fans.
To win a copy of ODi's single 'Crawl', simply listen to her interview and tell us who
is ODi most compared to? Email us your answers to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie

on stage and four part vocal harmonies. If you can't catch them live, catch them here on

and has been doing the rounds of the Irish music scene for the last few years now making a big impact everywhere he goes. Mark says that his aim in this business is to put a smile on peoples faces and that he wishes to make a change to all the sad and depressing music out there at the moment
and he certainly does not fail to deliver on this philosophy. Marks music is a breath of fresh
air and with his uplifting and up tempo tunes he will surely not disappoint. To date Mark has released three singles. His debut album will be released later this year and will be awaited
with open arms. Mark Hogan is destined for bigger and better things.watch this space!

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Cap Pas Cap
Already a hit with the critics having featured on many of the 'bands to watch for 2007'
lists Dublin four piece Cap Pas Cap have been reeling in audiences with their hooky basslines,
irregular rhythmns and the inspired, often frantic vocal outbursts of singer Gavin Duffy.
In business for just over a year and without a single release to their name, the band entered
a competition on the Bandwagon website without knowing what the prize was. They won and ended
up playing in front of thousands at the Reading Festival, charming the crowd with their 70s
new wave inspired energy. Having sold out the first pressing of their debut ep 'Not Not is Fine'
in a matter of weeks, those who bought the recording could be forgiven for thinking they have
a future piece of Irish Indy history in their record collection. Listen to the mighty

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - 79 Cortinaz
In an industry where nearly every band name starts with a 'the' and songs of despair and angst are the order of the day, 79Cortinaz provide a refreshing counterpoint. The band's name may or may not owe itself to a night in Supermacs where things nearly got out of hand between 79 members of the one Cortinaz family. The sound on the other hand is indebted to the lyrical absurdity of the Pixies with a guitar licks that point to a love of bands like Sonic Youth. Debut single 'Deirdre's Song' got the critical acclaim every band dreams of and landed them a prestigious 2FM session with Dan Hegarty. However, the band didn't rest on its laurels and let the hype go to their head, instead they have been busy putting the finishing touches to their debut album with producer and punk rock legend Rat Scabies.

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Electric Penguins
It might be 2007 but try telling that to Electric Penguins! This week's guests on O2 Making Waves use only instruments from the 70's to make their individual brand of music. In just under a year the Electric Penguins have managed to get together, record and album and be nominated for a Meteor Music Award. They have taken the Irish music scene by storm and show no signs of slowing down. Tune in to hear Mark and Paul from the band talk through all things music and just where they got the name from!

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - The Gorgeous Colours
The meteoric rise of The Gorgeous Colours is such that one can't help but
get a sense that if their colourful cascading comet hurtles much further along its current
trajectory they will soon blast into a different musical stratosphere. They seem to have
everything in their arsenal needed to reach the top of their game, and seem to be going there
fast. Hot Press picked them from hundreds of bands for a competition to perform at Castlepalooza
when the band were mere months old and went on to describe their first single Burning as
'genius summed up in four and a half minutes'. They've been compared to The Spinto Band,
Neil Young and The Violent Femmes amongst others and, suitably, sound like a band that have
been together for eons. Their mastery of their individual instruments combined with their
obvious song-writing talents, keen business acumen and electric live performances have
catapulted them to a height from which they just keep rising and rising. See what all
the fuss is about on this weeks O2 Making waves and feel free to drop us a line with your

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Evil Harrisons
Genre shifting Dundalk four piece Evil Harrisons found Dublin's clique driven
'band scene' tough to break into initially. But with time, hard work, and talent, not to mention
some mesmerisingly witty, amusing and insightful lyrics, any snotty nosed pretensions that may
have lingered with some of the more self important bands vanished when it became clear just
how entertaining these boys were. They've been described as 'indie-pop-jazz-funk' by one reviewer
and have influences ranging from the 'swing' movement of the 1920's through Ira Gershwin all
the way to Prince and the New York Dolls. Their musical trademarks are their exciting, sudden
and delicious turns of pace and the variety and energy with which they cram their songs.
Any one song can easily contain a dozen different genre typical elements and the
imagination with which they are written allied to their ever increasing confidence and
assuredness in their live performances means that these boys are destined to become the
biggest thing to come out of Dundalk in years. We also have Evil Harrisons CD's to give away.

Cure, accolades the lads are more than happy with. Listen to what Keith and Damian have

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - RedKid
Redkid, founded in 2003, have a shoeless crazed front-man, a busker from the streets of Barcelona, a drummer with a wacky style of beats, one Beatle-esk Liverpool rocker and a giant of a bass player. Their live shows are now legendary with their boundless
energetic performances and they promise to bring this live energy on to their debut album.

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Hoarsebox
With four classically trained vocalists comprising Hoarsebox's four
band members, vocal acrobatics and riveting choral exchanges combined with happy infectious
instrumental interplay are the order of the day. In an era when it seems anybody with a
pretty face and a good management team can sell a record regardless of their vocal or
instrumental talents Hoarsebox are a refreshing antidote to any charlatans who offer
image before substance. With their upbeat take on life and music and their unyielding
energy and desire 'to get people moving their feet as they watch the band sweat' at their
live shows these boys deliver a sound that's not quite The Police, not quite Steely Dan,
and not quite Andy Williams but somewhere in between with dollops of ska and soul thrown
in to boot. Enjoy Hoarsebox on this weeks O2 Making Waves and drop us a line at

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - The Chapters
Taking time out from being told you're the greatest thing since sliced bread
is no easy feat. But The Chapters, prompted by a relentless gigging schedule and the discovery
of Martin Scorcese's legendary rock documentary The Last Waltz, reached just such a point in
their musical development. They decided to enter a hibernation period, they ceased gigging and used
their newfound freedom to experiment a little. Where once the rehearsals were geared towards
impending gigs, now they were geared towards playing around with different sounds and ideas.
With a fresh perspective, The Chapters developed and honed a more pastoral, and at times dreamy,
rock sound that lies somewhere between the 'Americana' of acts such as The Band, Neil Young and
Wilco and the ambience of Pink Floyd. Check out this weeks O2 Making Waves to hear The Chapters

a regular on the radio. This exposure along with unprecedented download success
catapulted Star Belgrade to the fore of the Irish Music scene in less than a year.

being the final and essential piece.

(Play It) O2 Making Waves - Jenny Lindfors
It would be hard to imagine Jenny Lindfors being anything other than a
musician. From a young age Jenny's family, which includes musical promoters and performers
by the bucket load, have had a telling influence on her life. With a constant abundance of
musical instruments lying around the house from such an early age it's no wonder that Jenny
is responsible for providing not only vocals, but guitar, banjo, ukulele, piano, organ and
percussion on her debut album 'When The Night Time Comes'. Not only that but having
written and produced the album herself and earned rave reviews from The Irish Times, Hot Press,
The Irish Examiner, and The Independent amongst many others, Jenny's stripped down acoustic
folk-rock looks destined to reach a much larger audience in the very near future.
You can beat the rush and discover Jenny here on O2 Making Waves. Be sure to send us your
thoughts on Jenny and the show to makingwaves@podcastingireland.ie
