(Play It) Audio Texture Radio Show - May 6, 2013
A show of two halves today, downtempo, soulful beats and bobs to start before the bassline and twisted house kicked in to shatter the quiet. Starting this weeks show was a track from the wonderful new project from Peter Wraight, arranger for the Matthew Herbert big band and his new project The Webster Wraight Ensemble before we dropped the most soulful cut from the intriguing recent release by Clouds on Ramp. Now we've been bigging up the Omar album recently from the sampler and it looks like the music is living up to the expectation. The album is a real soulful journey across the styles. Ty then followed up with some great Fela sampling hip hop before US soulboys Myron & E made a great first impression.
Dexter was next up with the pysch folk sampling beats from his pleasingly different new beat album on MPM, swiftly followed by some blues sampling beat science from the new Zo release, coming soon on Cascade. Fremdtunes are keeping things rolling nicely with the soon to be released Planes material before Dub Club got all classic dubwise style and reminded us constant "progression" is not always necessary. Herva and his twisted blend of house and techno started the uptempo section and it's nice to see someone so detached from the latest fashions doing his thing before Actress's finest moment for ages/ever ensued in the form of his classic house with a subtle twist remix of Legowelt.
DA-10 then added a break, beats and bassline before Chaos/Order got totally nasty with their epic slice of UK grimeyness from the new Grime 2.0 compilation on Big Dada. Fourtet was then responsible for giving Rocketnumbernine a crazy Afro bassline refix before Drumagick got all samba bassline on us as only a couple of brothers (literally) from San Paolo know how.

(Play It) Audio Texture Radio Show - April 29, 2013
So it's all about locking into the long groove this week with only 11 tracks making up this show and a fair bit of 4/4 to boot but a lovely slice of nu-soul, courtesy of Kyra Simone, kicked off the show from the nice new lovers compilation, The Heart #3, on Tokyo Dawn Records who are probably about to create a baby boom if they release any more in the series. Another Record Store Day release then followed with the ever interesting Nicolas Jaar giving Grizzly Bear a nice slo-mo deep house twist which led into the outrageously sprawling and quite frankly, epic, Larry Gus remix of Sinkane's, "Warm Spell" which led into another equally epic track, the soon to be reissued "Boutade" from Mugwump - look out for that on International Feel in June.
The first of three freeloads in this weeks show then dropped the tempo but kept the deepness with Aus, aka Yasuhiko Fukuzono giving Nottingham's Origamibiro a little remix which paved the way for the ambient delights of Sad City from his excellent forthcoming EP on Phonica. DJRum then swept in with some great future dub (also avaialble for 0 from XLR8) before Aufgang ripped it up with some great twisted house vibes. Walton then showed his early promise was not without foundation with a great soulful bassline banger before Slava decided to twist house music to suit his own demented purposes which led into Sieren ending the show in fine and free, style thanks to the nice boys at Project Mooncircle.
Kyra Simone - Desire (Tokyo Dawn)

So back again after a little trip last week and a few, most enjoyable, days spent in Berlin eating, drinking, walking, record shopping and putting some faces to email addresses at BLN.FM and meeting the Project Mooncircle crew - good times. So back to the music and kicking off with a track from the If Music/Ninja Tune Record Store Day special release to celebrate the shops 10th anniversary which, as one of the founding staff members, makes me feel very old! Abstract soul was then the order of the day first with Gypsykind from the new, largely sweet, The Heart #3 compilation on Tokyo Dawn followed by a slice of Shuanise from the new Eglo compilation to celebrate their 4th anniversary, which also doesn't do much to make me feel any younger. ADR then kept it dark but in a jazzy cut up sort of way.
Hip Hop was then the order of the day kicking off with the throwback vibes of Homeboy Sandman on fine form which led nicely to the return of Quasimoto as Madlib dusst him off and drags him out of retirement. Soosh then showed that the Russians are making ever greater inroads into the wider music consciousness with a little help from a great Slowcoach remix. U-ZIQ then upped the tempo but kept the sweetness with a taste of his new EP due soon on Planet Mu before "Urban Heartware" provided a taste of the lush new Ritornell album about to drop on Karaoke Kalk and Francesca Belmonte then showcased her talents for Tricky's False Idols imprints.
It looks like Gold Panda is due to drop a new album this year and if "Brazil" is anything to go by his fans, Audio Texture included, won't be disappointed. Another Record Store day release then followed in the form of a great Paskal & Urban Absolutes remix of the classic "That Night" which led perfectly into a track from the new Kelpe EP on Drut before the aptly named Astro remix of Pablo Fierro kept the deep, cosmic house vibes going. Kalabrese then ended the show in fine style..

Gypsykind - Room 126 feat Amalia (Tokyo Dawn promo)

(Play It) Audio Texture Radio Show - April 8, 2013
Quite a soulful vibe this week, kicking off with one of two tracks in the show from Omar and his wonderful remake of his 1990 classic "There's Nothing Like This" taken from his new EP The Man which is boding very well indeed for the album. A sensitive Taylor McFerrin remix of "Come To My Door" from Jose James then followed before a hatrick of modern soul classics was completed by Sweatson Klank's "Morning After Pills" from his, now available, album on Project Mooncircle. Jazz was then the order of the day with the opening track from Kevin Beadle's stellar compilation, Private Collection, out on BBE Records.
Raffertie then kept the soul but darkened the atmosphere with a taste of his new material which led nicely into a tasty Deadbeat dub of The Orb & Lee Scratch Perry before Alight headed off into electronic realms to celebrate the launch of the new Future Without website and hopefully some more releases from this interesting cottage label. Now we like a good cover and the Bachar Mar-Khalife is just that, Serge Gainsbourg would have been proud of their version of "Machins Choses", house heads should look out for the half decent Ewan Pearson remix of same track.
Big Mister Doom have just gone from strength to strength and their new Disconnected Repeater EP on Fremdtunes is a lovely, simple but effective, future soulful affair with iET providing some lovely vocals on our pick of the tracks "Anybody Out There". This led nicely into a modern boogie trio kicking off with the lovely future soul flavour of Pomrad whose new EP has just dropped on Earnest Endeavours. Roux Spana then kept the vibes rolling and provided a nice taster of the new Heavenly Sweetness, Digging The Blogosphere comp before we dropped the title track from Omar's "The Man" EP which is set to be played at every discerning soul club forever more. Vondelpark then just dropped their dreamy new album and we are particularly liking the Balearic vibes of "Analog Dream" before Owiny Sigoma closed the show in a dubby Afro style.
Omar - There's Nothing Like This feat Pino Palladino (Freestyle promo)

New classical vibes kicked off this weeks show starting off with a taste of the Buddha Machine inventor's new album Fistful of Buddha and then ably followed by a track from the live recordings of Jaga Jazzist's concert with the Britten Sinfonia. Springintgut then provided another cultured tune from their fantastic and highly recommended, Where We Need No Map, album which is about to drop on the consistently great Pingipung label. The Herbertesque vibes of Jonatan Backelie then seemed like the sensible follow up and is a deep electronic grower.
Now Hot Casa are always worth checking for all things Afro, Latin, Soul and Funky and we are very taken by the reissue of the long lost Itadi Bonney album they are about to enrich the world with. This was followed by our favourite tune from the new Setenta album on the same label. We've managed to sink into the new Bilal album recently and it's leftfield soul charm is growing and growing and "Right At The Core" is another corker. MC Melodee and Cookin Soul then laid down the more traditionally rooted Hip Hop of "Think Twice" which should give you an idea of the "back in the day" vibes of this dutch MC. Dexter then kept the hip hop sensibility but added some vintage hippy folk vibes to them for a pleasant twist.
Now we rarely listen to whole albums repeatedly due to time constraints but after the Lapalux album made it to the headphones last week we had to drop the "You and I" track into the show to remind you what a talent this Essex boy is. Sepalcure then led a more uptempo charge with the future soul of "Make You" which has grown on us since the first cursory listen to the promo and which led very nicely into the Afro bassliine vibes of the LV and Mighty Zulu Nation soundclash which will be the flipside (and complete a killer package) of the new King L Man 12" when that drops sometime soon. Soul vibes quickly followed from Lady, now revealed as the new project from Terri Walker and Nicole Wray and boding very well for the album coming on Truth and Soul. A disco classic courtesy of the M+M remix of the Jones Girls then finished off the show very nicely - lookout for that on BBE - the disco dons, very soon.
Christiaan Virant - Do Better (CVMK promo)
Jaga Jazzist live with Britten Sinfonia - For All You Happy People (Ninja Tune promo)
